The opening of the Africa Trade Summit 2026 placed execution at the centre of Africa's economic conversation.
In her welcome address, African Trade Chamber Executive Chair Benedicta Lasi argued that the question facing the continent is increasingly not what Africa could become, but whether its institutions, governments and businesses can organise quickly enough to capture opportunities already within reach.
The Summit brought policy and enterprise into the same conversation around industrial capacity, finance, regional production systems and market integration.
A central theme was the need to move beyond fragmented national approaches. Competitive African industry requires coordination across corridors, markets and value chains, supported by infrastructure, predictable policy and capital capable of financing long-term productive investment.
The message also established the relationship between the Summit and the Africa Trade Awards. The Summit addresses the systems and decisions required to advance African trade; the Awards recognise those whose work demonstrates what execution looks like in practice.
