Academy Voting Rules

How Academy voting works, and the governance that keeps recognition independent.

  1. 01

    Who votes

Recognition is decided by the Africa Trade Awards Academy. There is no public vote. Academy membership is by invitation only and cannot be applied for on this website.

  2. 02

    The recognition process

Every award follows the same controlled sequence, and no stage may be skipped.

    • Nomination submitted
    • Nomination completeness review
    • Advisory Board review and shortlisting
    • Academy voting window
    • Independent statistical verification
    • Final winner, released only when authorised
  3. 03

    One selection in each award

Each Academy member records one selection in each award category in which they are eligible to participate. A submitted vote is final and cannot be changed, withdrawn or amended.

  4. 04

    Voting period

The Academy voting window opens once Advisory Board shortlisting is complete and runs for ten working days, on opening and closing dates set by the awards administration. No vote can be recorded outside that window.

  5. 05

    Conflicts of interest

Before assessing any category, Academy members must declare whether they hold a professional, financial, advisory, personal or other relationship with a nominee. Where a conflict exists, or where the member submitted a nomination appearing in that category, recusal is required and the category is recorded as abstained.

  6. 06

    Confidentiality

Academy voting is strictly confidential. No live totals, percentages, rankings, vote counts or provisional winners are shown at any stage, including to Academy members after they have voted.

  7. 07

    Independent verification

After voting closes, authorised independent statisticians review the completed voting dataset, examine turnout, abstentions and incomplete assessments, and finalise the verified outcome. Votes cannot be altered during verification.

  8. 08

    Results and release

A verified result is locked and remains confidential until the awards administration formally approves it for release. Winners are announced through the official Africa Trade Awards channels and presented on stage at the Gala.

  9. 09

    Integrity and audit

Every action in the recognition process — nomination decisions, invitations, conflict declarations, votes, verification and release — is recorded in an append-only audit trail that no user may edit or delete.
